Cut all communication Let it be known One Nine Eight Four One in ten Used to be AP We're at forty-percent Forty-percent Fuck this Just because we sing it doesn't make it truth Just because they argue doesn't make that truth Find your own way Whether it's through misery or tragedy or knowledge or some phantom-calling Too many choose war Can anyone be blamed for siding with the others? Or failing to believe in god a spiteful god? Oh god, a spiteful god Please don't ask me to huddle in that circle preaching of a globalized marketplace prosperity harmony Can't we all agree that preaching isn't truth? But it's made so through force of military religion and currency

Fire Escape 02:14
Have you heard the news today? Activism, the new terrorism It has mostly everybody running scared Goddamn, it must be easier to point the blame at all this change Instead of owning up to all the mistakes our precious, delicate, idle hands have amassed Have you heard the news today? Activism, the old communism It has mostly everybody running scared Goddamn, it must be easier to point the blame at all this change So fuck it, bomb them all Fuck it, bomb them all Every chorus loves to chant Yes, every chorus loves to chant So fuck it, bomb us all

We aren't allowed to attack the troops with voices of resistance? They're just following orders, part of command Support the slaughter as we divide and conquer foreign civilian land It is really so blasphemous to return all the tags and disarm all the guns? It's really not that cynical Compassion and pity for any child, woman or being who falls to causality But when military suicides outweigh artillery fire it becomes that much more unbearable to hear the chorus scream, divided we fall, united we stand Divided we fall, united we stand? Fuck that Sure it's not knighted we stand? Instead of united we stand? Oh look, the chorus gets to parade as we etch another slash into our glorious past March, two, three, four We'll teach the children to hum along to war-time melodies As the caskets are lined and draped we'll teach them not to fear Freedom will persevere But what we really mean to say is our freedom will prevail at the cost of you, son Our freedom will prevail at the cost of you, doll Our freedom will prevail at the cost of them, son Our freedom will prevail at the cost of them, doll

Why don't our history books teach us about the reality of progress or the destruction of a bottom line? Why aren't we taught anything outside of their capitalistic free world? Why is it so naive to hope for generations without presidents? Why is it so naive? Who needs this government if everybody knows the value of working for one's self? Who needs this government if everybody's willing to lend a hand without interest? Instead we break the backs we break the homes we break the hearts of others To support our habits support our vices support our fucking corruption I guess we're too busy racing towards the inevitable armageddon At least that's what we tell ourselves as we wipe out another town another city another nation Armageddon
5.
Napoleon's complex is drunk again screaming about how the peasants depleted the land The idea that his essence warrants privileged deed is disgraceful to the ideas we claim to love and believe To all our enemies who aren't really thieves or fucking the devil we send apologies Some of us love and believe Napoleon's complex is drunk again But he is as small as us, as small as them

I wonder which town will be the first to go? I wonder if all the tourists will be told the truth about all the effort and lack thereof to keep this afloat? Yeah, I wonder Will this become another tale for all the CEOs, kings and queens to reap and sow? This was collapsing long before those factories foreclosed Consumed with "in god we trust" The meaning was voided the moment we declared war justified by fabled lies And now we wonder Oh yes, we wonder And as history repeats itself I am hopeful that today's ashes will not bloom tomorrow's empires As history repeats itself I am hopeful that today's ashes will stay buried in the earth So this will not become another tale for all the CEOs, kings and queens to reap and sow

Our towns are decaying at such rapid pace Turn a blind eye Insert another gentrified city/suburb with a shopping mall a tourist strip and Caesar's resort So when the markets crash there will be no one left to revolt The fear of losing everything keeps us chained to: Plasma screens, oil heat We comply to survive? Processed feed, apathy Are we even alive? If we lost everything, holy fuck, an honest try For when the markets crash there will be no one left to comply

Yeah, I almost moved to Texas Yeah, I almost moved to Pittsburgh Yeah, I almost moved to New York City Yeah, I almost got out of bed today The headlines told me to hibernate with all their flashes of crashes of planes and trains and stock markets Yeah, I almost moved to Texas Yeah, I almost moved to Portland Yeah, I almost moved to San Francisco Yeah, I almost did everything I said Much like our figureheads with all their flashes of crashes of planes and bombs and stock markets We're becoming as faithful becoming as truthful as all the whigs' headlines combined Becoming as faithful becoming as truthful as all the whigs' headlines combined Yeah, I almost moved to Texas Yeah, I almost moved to Pittsburgh Yeah, I almost moved to New York City Yeah, I almost moved to Texas Yeah, I almost moved to Portland Yeah, I almost moved to San Francisco Why do I hide behind these flashes of smoke and cracked mirrors? Why do we hide behind these flashes of smoke and cracked mirrors? We're become as faithful becoming as truthful as all the whigs' headlines combined

I don't belong here, she screams, one more time in his ear I don't belong here, he cries, downing one more shot Just a few more We're good for the road to Denver or Frisco or anywhere that wants to revive the beat Who cares about their next paid date? I don't belong here, he screams, one more time in her ear I don't belong here, she cries, downing one more shot Just a few more we're good for the road Where did all the hitch-hikers go? Why is it more of a crime than celebrating another heat-seeking bulls-eye? I don't belong here, they scream, one more time out loud I don't belong here, they cry, downing a few more shots Just one more we're good for the road to Denver or Frisco or anywhere that wants to revive the beat Who cares about their next paid date? Where did all the hitch-hikers go? Why is it more of a crime than celebrating another heat-seeking bulls-eye? Where did all the hitch-hikers go? Why is it more of a crime than celebrating another UAV bulls-eye?

Once I settle on a fixed address please write and send pictures Have you married? Did you settle on that 9-to-5? for that beach house If so, I'd love to visit and hear about life near the ocean The one I'd never have And yes, I'm still restless I'm still drawn to the idea that everyday can be love and adventure Regardless of anything or anyone who says otherwise Regardless of you

Is it easier to count the days by wasting away? It's hopeless, they say Why won't you join us in abyss? Take everything you can Live out that American dream Prosperity is yours And when questions are asked plead no sight Plead no foul Plead no sight, no sound, no foul If you feel the clamps tightening please don't hang a head To journey out to pasture allows the whigs playing make-believe another day to live out Another day to live that glorious American dream

about

Self-Destructs was recorded by the Ghostwrite at Magpie Cage in Baltimore, MD on April 25th, 2009. A fistful of alcoholic beverages were consumed during the recording process. This did not help make this recording journey better or more enjoyable. I merely had (have) what some might call a "problem," and I was definitely a tad drunk while Brooks (Harlen) recorded and mixed this album. Good thing someone was being responsible.

The album art was created by Erin Gouldin.

Recording of this album took about six hours (including mixing). \Most of the songs were live takes with vocal doubles.
